G’day Everyone,

Welcome back to Kez’s bookshelf

Today, I wish to pay homage to this incredible love story and it’s creator.

Sylvain Reynard is no ordinary author. He is an exceptionally gifted storyteller and his penmanship outstanding.

To award The Florentine Series five stars, is simply not enough for this phenomenal read….

The Florentine series is a paranormal romance set in the wonderful city of Florence. It’s a gothic tale about the mysterious vampyre William York  who happens to be the Prince of the Florentine underworld and ruler of his principality. One fateful evening he is drawn to the most delightful scent he’s ever encountered.  As he reaches it’s source, he finds himself unexpectedly captivated by a pair of the most beautiful green eyes that belong to Raven Wood. Hence begins the powerful love story of two most improbable lovers and their fight to stay together…..

As I ponder  The Florentine series…

I’m reminded of the Frankie Goes to Hollywood song – The Power of Love.

Let’s take a closer look at the three novels that make up the series more detail:

THE RAVEN

Within the first novel of the series, we are introduced to Raven Wood – who works at the Uffizi gallery as an art restorer. A compassionate young woman with a courageous spirit, she is also known for the selfless act of putting others first, even before her own safety. Raven is a curvaceous woman of beauty who happens to walk with the aid of a cane. Her diversity is her strength. She is a wonderful heroin and a very relatable character for many female readers.

In the beginning, we learn of that fateful night that begins in tragedy and changes destiny’s course for both Raven and William. As Raven discovers William’s supernatural abilities, she is drawn into his dangerous world of vampyres, hunters and the Curia. The underworld is cold, calculated and full of traitors eager to see William’s demise. As the Prince of Florence, his principality is a prize for any ambitious vampyre.

With his priceless Botticelli’s illustrations of Dante’s The Divine Comedy safely back in his possession, William endeavors to uncover the thief and seek revenge against Professor Emerson for having once possessed what was rightfully his. Which proves to be more difficult than he envisioned.

THE SHADOW

The Shadow

The mystery and intrigue woven into the Florentine series continues in the second novel of the series  – ‘The Shadow’. It is masterfully crafted in true Sylvain Reynard style and is one of my personal favourite SR novels.

While the storyline continues to takes place in the underworld of Florence, incorporating renaissance history, art and architecture in true Sylvain Reynard style. Many thought provoking questions and innuendos brought to the forefront are answered. Additional revelations are also uncovered as William and Raven fight adversity to remain together and allow their love to flourish. In all the turmoil and angst to keep William’s greatest weakness (his love for Raven) a secret from his enemies, he is losing control over his principality fast.

But of course, not all the secrets are revealed within “The Shadow’, leaving readers in great anticipation for what was to come in the final installment of the series….

THE ROMAN

Every once in a while a novel comes along that is so profound, so compelling, it will have you reeling. The final novel to this incredible series is most definitely that book.

The Roman‘ is fast paced and the suspense is intense!! It’s a rollercoaster of emotions as the improbable lovers fight to remain together and William desperately tries to protect both Florence and Raven.

While we know ‘The Roman’ is a story about trust, betrayal, love and redemption. There were two other prominent elements to this tale – ‘courage’ and ‘the power of love’. There is no doubt that Raven is one valiant young woman, but it’s William’s courage that comes to the forefront in ‘The Roman’.

As you follow William and Raven on their arduous journey, their emotions become yours – anguish, fear, happiness, contentment. When the hairs on Raven’s neck are raised, you’ll feel them. And when there are tears of sadness or tears of joy, you’ll shed them.

The Roman‘ most definitely delivers the epic ending The Florentine series deserves. In fact it’s beyond epic!!

I highly recommend Sylvain Reynard and believe his penmanship makes him one of the best new age lyrical writers of today. The phenomenal ‘The Florentine Series’ is simply unforgettable and a perfect read for those new to the paranormal genre….
