A Review of Exposure & Special Previews of The Locklear’s Upcoming Novels

G’day everyone,

Thanks for joining me on the red carpet. Today I bring you something really special. A wonderful experience is planned for you, in which both Tom (currently handing out cocktails) and I are ecstatic about. It will be an opportunity to mingle with movies stars and meet the wonderful authors who created them. We are so pleased you brought your cameras and your autograph books, this will be a moment to remember and you’ll want to capture it the best way you can.

While we wait for our special guests, let’s take a seat in the foyer and chat a little about the significance of these movie star characters and their wonderful creators Jennifer and Morgan Locklear.

The movie stars and their witty and intelligent publicist are the main characters in the delightful contemporary romance story titled  Exposure. However, before we explore this little beauty in more detail, I want to tell you about its wonderful authors.

This is a debut novel for Jennifer and Morgan who are partners in life as well as co-authors to Exposure.  I am very fortunate to know a little about the writers and have heard them in interview via La Literati podcasts. Both Jennifer and Morgan possess a wonderful zest for life and their presence is a real ‘breath of fresh air’.  It’s a quality that transmits through their storytelling and has a real presence in Exposure. The story is a delightful light-hearted read and I guarantee you will love it.

You may have noticed that Tom is buzzing around with much excitement today; he’s just as enthusiastic as I am to meet our special guests. You see, Tom is also very familiar with this novel and loved the story as much as I did. We shared many moments over afternoon tea, discussing the storyline and sharing a chuckle or two over the many humourous moments within the story. The extra delight for Tom was to learn that one of characters is a car enthusiast. Tom has a dream to own a 1967/68 Ford Shelby Mustang GT500 one day…

There are many muscle cars mentioned within the story and what a thrill it was to read the car enthusiast possessed a Ford Shelby Mustang. Therefore, it’s fair to say Tom is quite eager to have the opportunity to talk…car talk.

Let’s now take a closer look at the storyline to this little beauty…

Publicist Shaunna Noble is no stranger to the ego-filled dysfunction of Hollywood’s elite, but is she ready for her two biggest clients to turn into her worst nightmare?

Kyle Petersen and Michelle Cooper are Hollywood royalty, everyone’s favorite celebrity couple, but while on location filming their new summer blockbuster, Kyle ambushes his wife with divorce papers and orders Shaunna to destroy Michelle in the media. Unwilling to comply, Shaunna spectacularly and publicly quits her job, humiliating Kyle in the process.

David Quinn, a struggling actor cast alongside the A-listers, is caught in the crossfire. When pictures surface of David and Michelle out on the town, media and fans rush to crown them Hollywood’s new hot couple. Kyle explodes, tensions boil over, and everyone’s lives and careers are thrown into jeopardy.

So what’s a publicist to do? Especially when Shaunna finds herself falling in love with the sexy and talented David. Can she put out fires on the set while keeping the flames burning in the bedroom?

Love, lies and passion. What happens when the naked truth is exposed?

My Review

This wonderful read contains more than the main stream contemporary romance story and has something for everyone. Humour, romance, drama, movie stars, great one-liners, movie references, muscle cars and delightful characters you’ll just love. Of course there is also a villain that you’ll love to hate…who is still in search of his TV remote!

The story is witty, well written and refreshing. I giggled a lot, sometimes laughing out loud and I found myself cursing at the villain. Who does get his just-desserts in more ways than one.

If you’re looking for that quick read to lighten your mood and brighten your day, than this is the story for you. It’s an ideal story to pack in your suitcase and take on vacation; the giggles are contagious and those around you will soon want to know just what you’re reading.

I give Exposure five ‘revved-up, star-dazzling’ stars!!

Oh look…our guests are just arriving.

Ready everyone, grab your autograph books and cameras let’s go and secure our places…

While Tom is busy with Shaunna and her Father (talking all things musle cars, in particular,Ford Shelby Mustangs, i’m sure) let’s take the opportunity to speak with Jennifer and Morgan…

Congratulations Jenn and Morgan on the success of Exposure it’s a wonderful story you must be so proud.

What inspired you to write about Hollywood?

Morgan and Jennifer: Like most people, we’ve always been interested in pop culture. Movies, television, books and music are all things we enjoy, but we would never say we’ve been obsessed with the celebrity culture. Morgan has spent much of his life actively involved in live theatre and was able to take those human experiences and transfer them to our fictional movie set, but the entire novel generated from just one image in Jennifer’s mind. Specifically, it was the moment when Shaunna Noble quits her job as Kyle Petersen’s publicist, storms out of his movie trailer and tosses all of his clothing to the fans gathered nearby.

Jennifer: didn’t really understand who Shaunna was or why she was so angry at the movie sstar, but it was obvious that the blow up was taking place on a movie set. The rest of the novel was developed around that one moment – finding out what events led up to the outburst, trying to understand how someone could be driven to such rash action and wondering about what would happen to Shaunna in the aftermath of such an explosion

What’s next for you both?

Jennifer: I’m writing a story I’ve entitled ‘Constellation’. It’s a May to December contemporary romance set in Central Oregon. The story begins with the two main characters, Jack and Kathleen, having just given in to the temptation of mutual attraction.  The rest of the novel explores how this one spontaneous event alters Kathleen’s perception of her universe. When I initially began writing it I thought Jack would be a man of mystery, but the deeper I get into the story the more I realize that Kathleen is the one with all the secrets. I’m almost done writing the manuscript and have determined that I actually have a series in the making. I’m outlining two more books and even have an idea for a fourth book. This project has me very excited right now and I’m hoping to publish the first book later this year. Here’s an unedited excerpt from the opening of the story:

Screen Captures16-005

Screen Captures16-003

Morgan: I’m currently conducting what I call a “squeegee edit” on a novel called ‘Connection’.  It’s a romance and a ghost story that takes place mostly on the N train in New York City. I establish new rules for ghosts while reinforcing some of my old favorites. It’s going to be more dramatic than any of my previous efforts and hopefully scary in parts.  Here is the first page:

You make a great team, will we see another co-authored novel from you both?

Jennifer: Probably. Morgan has come up with two story ideas that he’d like me to help him develop and craft. Mouth of the Mediterranean will be a caper and will take place in the early sixties.  Harvest Moon is a love story that takes place on a lunar mining colony. No doubt that concept was influenced by Sling Shot (the fictional SciFi movie produced by our characters in Exposure).

Thank you so much for your time today Jenn and Morgan. You have both been so generous with your responses and I’m honoured to feature previews of your upcoming novels.

Both Constellation and Connection sound amazing and I wish you every success. Thanks again for this privilege today, I’m truly honoured.

At the end of my posts, I like to leave readers with an uplifting thought, do you have a favourite quote that always brightens your day?

Thanks for your company today everyone, I hope you enjoyed the review of Exposure and if you haven’t read it yet, do yourself a favour and purchase a copy, you’ll love it!

How wonderful does Constellation and Connection sound…I can’t wait for them to be released.

Until next time….

The Record of My Heart by Georgina Guthrie

G’day everyone,

Welcome to the final review of the Words series by Georgina Guthrie.

Come through to the living room and join me for a glass of champaign as we celebrate this wonderful contemporary romance series. Keep an eye out for the smartly dressed Tom…

he shall be walking around with a tray of horderves so please, help yourselves.

So let’s take a closer look at:

The Record of My Heart

My overall rating

Daniel Grant desperately wants Aubrey Price, a woman he can’t have—at least not for two long months. He could give up and walk away, but he won’t. Following in his grandfather’s footsteps, he waits.

And while he waits…he writes.

Through a series of journals and letters, The Record of My Heart traces Daniel’s romantic contemplations, what he calls “the secret musings of a man tumbling headfirst in love…”

My Review

Let me just say, if you were not convinced after Better Deeds than Words (the second novel to the series) that Sailor is in fact up there with the ultimate ‘swoon worthiness of book boyfriends’ – you will be after reading The Record of My Heart.

Inspired by a group of letters that his Grandfather wrote for Patty, Daniel decides to pen his own series of love letters and journals as he waits for the time he and Aubrey can be together.

During this process, he relates his affection for Poppet to various works of Shakespeare and Keats. Highlights for me included Henry VIII as he pined for Anne Boleyn…

…absence gives enough, and more than I ever thought could be felt…”

And then there was John Keats and as Sailor describes “his epic love letters to Fanny Brawne. His affection for her turned him into a lovesick wretch” I love that Daniel associates with this and further more…

I cannot exist without you – I am forgetful of everything but seeing you again-my life seems to stop there- I see no further…

…My creed is love and you are its only tenet-you have ravish’d me away by a power I cannot resist.

So tell me you’re not swooning now!!

If you’re not…I don’t believe you.

There are many more passages I’d love to quote to you, but I think you deserve to read Daniel’s musings for yourself. I will however, point you to my favourite journal entry which is Wednesday April 22. What a total sweetheart!  Daniel…I think I love you!

After reading the whole Words series, the ending of The Record of My Heart is wonderful…I loved it and by then I was a blubbering mess. I can only imagine that Aubrey would have been exactly the same way.

Thank you Georgina Guthrie, for your wonderful words. You take your readers on a delightful journey and leave us with a sense of hope that real gentlemen DO exist as well as good old fashioned romance.

The Truest of Words by Georgina Guthrie

G’day from not so sunny WA,

If you recently celebrated Easter, I hope you enjoyed your weekend festivities.

What a cold and rainy day.  Allow me to take your coat, Tom is waiting by the fire with a warm drink and your favourite chair awaits you. Please make yourself comfortable.

As we continue our review of The Words series by Georgina Guthrie, we take a closer look at the third novel The Truest of Words.  Before we do, let’s just recap the journey through Better Deeds Than Words…

While Daniel and Aubrey promise to pursue their romance, Dean Grant learns of their intimate liaison. Aubrey is forced to pledge that she will keep away from Dean Grant’s Son and Daniel promises not to shower Aubrey with expensive gifts.  Going to great lengths, Daniel adopts charming and creative ways to demonstrate his growing love and commitment to Aubrey. And the couple are secretly supported by a growing number of friends and family.

Let’s now critique the delightful…

 Truest of Words

With the end of term finally behind them, Aubrey and Daniel look forward to building a life together. A painful realization that they can’t truly embrace the future until they’ve come to terms with the past leads them to discover the healing potential of forgiveness and the power of unconditional love.

Like the first two books in the series, The Truest of Words is a romantic tale that blends witty banter with passion and drama.

 My Review

Truest of Words sees the conclusion to this beautiful love story. Daniel is such a sweetheart and continues to be a ‘swoonworthy’ book boyfriend. As readers, we have come to fondly recognise Aubrey and Daniel by their affectionate pet names; Poppet and Sailor. We have seen their relationship grow and be accepted by friends and family, while also witnessing other relationships blossom around them. Furthermore, their journey entails personal growth that tells a wonderful story of mercy, compassion and unconditional love. Works of Shakespeare continue to feature throughout and as a reader it has made for a delightful experience…

“Doubt thou the stars are fire;
Doubt that the sun doth move;
Doubt truth to be a liar;
But never doubt I love.”
~ William Shakespeare (Hamlet)

Better Deeds Than Words by Georgina Guthrie

It’s lovely to see you.

Please, follow me through to the library. Feel free to kick off your shoes and make yourself comfortable. Tom is already mixing drinks at the bar; he says he already knows just what you like.

Today as we progress with The Word series, we will review the second novel, Better Deeds than Words. But before we do so, let’s quickly summarise what we know about Daniel and Aubrey so far. Aubrey is in the final months of her undergraduate degree at the University of Toronto and Daniel is the TA in her senior Shakespearean studies course. There is tension between Daniel and Aubrey as they struggle with their forbidden affections, both knowing the other is simply unattainable.  But then, after an eventful evening at Dean Grant’s family home, Aubrey and Daniel encounter a rather saucy game of pool. This sees everything change and so begins the forbidden romance…

Ah…here’s Tom with refreshments. As always, he has impeccable timing, enjoy!

So let’s take a closer look at the second novel in the series shall we…

Better Deeds Than Words

Aubrey and Daniel’s vow to pursue their dangerous romance despite university regulations takes them down a path of secrecy and lies. With only six weeks left to the end of term, they’re under the constant watch of David Grant—Daniel’s “Dean of Students” father. If that weren’t enough to pressure them, Daniel’s checkered past also casts a shadow over the young lovers who continuously tempt fate until one wrong move leads to an inevitable disaster. Can they salvage a relationship when everything seems to be conspiring against them?

My Review

This story is an absolute five star!

Better Deeds than Words is a delightful read. If you found Daniel and Aubrey’s connection didn’t quite capture your heart in The Weight of Words, it surely will in this novel. The charisma between the two main characters is enchanting to say the least.
As the love story unfolds, their liaison is not without adversities. While choosing to acknowledge their growing feelings for one another and apposing university regulations, it puts restraint on their blossoming relationship. Their situation suddenly becomes far worse when Dean Grant finds out that his Son Daniel and Miss Price share an intimate liaison. Aubrey makes a promise to Dean Grant to keep away from Daniel, while Daniel promises not to shower Aubrey with expensive gifts.  This sees him going to great lengths to express his love to Aubrey. His charming and creative ways demonstrates to the reader that it’s often the little things in life that has the most impact….very good food for thought!

Along with good old fashioned romance this story contains light-hearted humour and you will see new meanings to phrases such as ‘a regular oil change’ and ‘self employment’, thanks to Daniel’s delightful Grandma Patty. Of course a love story is not complete without passion and desire of which there is plenty. I giggled at the ‘extra activities’ carried out in the games room, it seems the dreamy Daniel has a thing for pool tables.

Half way through reading this wonderful story I knew it was going to be a five star, it’s simply something special and the way in which the author incorporates works of Shakespeare is just enchanting.
How pleasing it is to see that good old fashioned romance is alive and well in contemporary love stories of today.
If you have not already read this book I highly recommend you do, for the story and the characters will captivate you.

So let’s recap the two titles we have reviewed so far…

The Weight of Words by Georgina Guthrie

G’day from sunny Perth in WA,

Lovely to have you back, please make yourself comfy while Tom pours you a drink.

Today I am very pleased to present the first love story chosen from my bookcase – ‘The Word’ series by Georgina Guthrie.

It’s a well written tale of forbidden love that encompasses 3 novels and a novella. Best described as … “good old fashioned romance at its finest!” I loved this story for it’s ease of read, mix of good humour, drama and most importantly romance. As apposed to the fast paced, ‘hot & steamy’ dialogue of many contemporary love stories today;  ‘The Words’ series is a tale of a forbidden courtship, with a nice splash of the ‘hot and steamy’. 😉

So lets get to know the author a little better:+

Georgina Guthrie is: a self-professed book hugger and compulsive diarist. Though GG now resides in Canada, she was born across the pond and still considers herself a Brit through and through, which may explain her frequent visits to her favourite local British import shop.

GG is often happiest when reading and writing, but she’s just as likely to be found hanging out with friends and family, almost certainly with a glass of red wine in one hand a bag of cheese and onion crisps in the other. ( From authors profile on Goodreads.com )
As part of showcasing her series here on Kez’s bookshelf, GG has very graciously agreed to an interview that will conclude the four part review…so please stay tuned!

Now that you’re comfy and Tom has served you refreshments, let’s take a closer look at the first novel in the series:

The Weight of Words

Aubrey Price is in the final months of her undergraduate degree at the University of Toronto. Bright, witty, and fiercely independent, Aubrey works part-time for the college dean and has her sights set on graduating with distinction. When she meets Dean Grant’s son, Daniel, the TA in her senior Shakespearean studies course, a shared love of the Bard’s works and an instant mutual attraction draw Aubrey and Daniel together. Unfortunately, a strict anti-fraternizing policy–made more perilous by a black mark on Daniel’s record–keeps them apart. Against this academic backdrop, Aubrey and Daniel navigate their way through a steamy courtship, their forbidden romance aided, abetted, and sometimes thwarted by a colorful cast of friends, family, and classmates.

 My Review

The Weight of Words introduces the characters beautifully; Aubrey is bright, witty and strong, while Daniel is handsome, broody and equally as sharp. The chemistry between the two is dynamite! A shared passion of Shakespeare sees a number of quotes and references wonderfully incorporated throughout the novel. For readers who are not familiar with Shakespeare, the story provides a charming means of enlightenment. While those who appreciate classical literature will love the inclusion of The Bard’s work. The wit that both Aubrey and Daniel possess, provides a good mix of humour and sassiness and their forbidden love sees the couple appreciating the ‘little things’ shared between one another. This is one aspect I love most about the tale that is Aubrey and Daniel’s.

So where can you get your hands on this novel?
